In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

There is a question that sits underneath a lot of the spiritual struggle we face: is all of this actually worth it? The early mornings, the prayers we drag ourselves to, the halal choices that cost us something โ is there a point?
Jannah is the point. Not as an abstract concept, but as a real destination we are either moving toward or drifting away from, every single day. The problem is that most of us think about Jannah occasionally โ during Ramadan, at a funeral, in a moment of guilt โ rather than asking for it consistently.
The Prophet (peace be upon him) did not leave Jannah to occasional thought. He asked for it. Repeatedly. Specifically. And he told us to do the same. This post is about what to say, why it works, and how to make it a daily habit rather than a once-in-a-while wish.
The Dua
The Quranic dua โ said by believers in every era:
ุฑูุจููููุง ุขุชูููุง ููู ุงูุฏููููููุง ุญูุณูููุฉู ููููู ุงููุขุฎูุฑูุฉู ุญูุณูููุฉู ููููููุง ุนูุฐูุงุจู ุงููููุงุฑู
Rabbana atina fid-dunya hasanatan wa fil-akhirati hasanatan wa qina adhaban-nar.
"Our Lord, give us good in this world and good in the hereafter, and protect us from the punishment of the Fire." โ (Quran 2:201)
Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) said this was the dua the Prophet (peace be upon him) made most frequently.
The direct ask โ three times:
ุงููููููู ูู ุฅููููู ุฃูุณูุฃููููู ุงููุฌููููุฉู
Allahumma inni as'aluka al-Jannah.
"O Allah, I ask You for Paradise."
Say this three times. Then say:
ุงููููููู ูู ุฃูุฌูุฑูููู ู ููู ุงููููุงุฑู
Allahumma ajirni min an-nar.
"O Allah, protect me from the Fire."
Three times. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said that when you do this, Paradise itself asks Allah to admit you, and the Fire asks Allah to protect you from it. (Tirmidhi 2572)
The Story Behind It
There is a beautiful exchange recorded between the Prophet (peace be upon him) and a man named Anas ibn Malik, who served the Prophet for ten years. Anas said the Prophet asked him one day: "What is your dua to Allah?" Anas said: "I ask Allah for Paradise and seek refuge in Him from the Fire." The Prophet replied: "Around that, we all rotate." (Abu Dawud)
It is a simple, clarifying moment. The Prophet did not say Anas was being too simplistic. He did not say there were higher spiritual goals. He confirmed that the orientation toward Jannah and away from the Fire was exactly right โ the central axis around which all worship turns.
There is also the hadith about al-Firdaus specifically. The Prophet said: "When you ask Allah, ask Him for al-Firdaus, for it is the highest part of Paradise. Above it is the Throne of the Most Merciful, and from it the rivers of Paradise flow." (Bukhari 2790) He was not telling us to aim low. He was telling us to ask for the best, because Allah's generosity is not diminished by a large request.
How to Make This Dua Part of Your Daily Life
The challenge with dua for Jannah is that it feels too big and too distant to remember in the middle of an ordinary Tuesday. This is exactly why it needs a trigger โ a fixed moment that pulls the dua out of "someday" and into today.
Attach it to salah โ the most reliable trigger you have.
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "The closest a servant is to his Lord is when he is in sujud, so make much dua there." (Muslim 482) After every final tashahhud, before the salam, is one of the most powerful times for dua. Before you end each prayer, say Allahumma inni as'aluka al-Jannah three times and Allahumma ajirni min an-nar three times. It takes less than 30 seconds.
Add the Quranic dua after Fajr and Maghrib.
These two prayers bookend the most spiritually potent parts of the day. After Fajr and after Maghrib, add Rabbana atina fid-dunya hasanatan to your post-prayer adhkar. You are already sitting on the prayer mat โ the cost of adding this dua is close to zero.
Make it a standing item in your morning adhkar.
If you already have a morning routine of duas, Jannah should be on the list. The morning is when you set the direction of the day. Asking for Jannah in the morning is a declaration that the day's choices matter โ that you are moving somewhere specific.
The streak matters more than perfection.
You will miss days. The goal is not to be perfect โ the goal is to return quickly and keep the habit longer than you break it. If you miss a day, say the dua now, right where you are, and restart the count.
Combine it with your dua for protection.
Jannah and protection from the Fire are two sides of the same ask. Many Muslims find that pairing the two โ asking for the destination and asking for protection from the opposite โ creates a cleaner, more complete daily habit.

Common Questions
Is it too presumptuous to ask for al-Firdaus, the highest level?
No โ the Prophet specifically told us to ask for it. He said Allah's generosity is not limited, and that we should not lower our hopes when making dua. Asking for al-Firdaus is not arrogance; it is following prophetic instruction about how to make dua.
Should I ask for Jannah for other people too?
Yes, and there is a reward in it. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Whoever asks for Paradise for his Muslim brother in secret, the angel says: And for you the same." Asking for Jannah for your parents, spouse, and loved ones is both an act of love and a way of multiplying the dua back to yourself.
Does asking for Jannah mean I am neglecting this life?
Not at all. The Quranic dua itself asks for hasanah โ goodness โ in both this world and the next. Islam does not ask you to neglect the dunya. It asks you to order it correctly โ to live well in this world while keeping the destination in view. Asking for Jannah daily keeps that order intact.
What if I feel like I do not deserve Jannah?
That feeling of unworthiness, when it comes with sincerity rather than despair, is actually the right posture for dua. You are not asking based on what you deserve. You are asking based on who Allah is โ the Most Merciful, the Most Generous. The hadith about Jannah interceding for you when you ask three times applies regardless of how you feel about yourself in the moment.
Closing
Jannah is not a vague reward at the end of a long list of obligations. It is the destination that gives every obligation its meaning. The prayer matters because of where it is pointing. The halal choice matters because of what it is preserving. The sabr matters because of what is waiting on the other side.
Ask for it today. Three times. Before your salah ends. After Fajr. Before you sleep. Let the ask become as consistent as the desire.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the dua for Jannah from the Quran?
The most often cited Quranic dua for Jannah is: Rabbana atina fid-dunya hasanatan wa fil-akhirati hasanatan wa qina adhab an-nar โ Our Lord, give us good in this world and good in the hereafter, and protect us from the punishment of the Fire. (Quran 2:201)
Did the Prophet specifically ask for Jannah every day?
Yes. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Whoever asks Allah for Paradise three times, Paradise says: O Allah, admit him into Paradise. And whoever seeks protection from the Fire three times, the Fire says: O Allah, protect him from the Fire. (Tirmidhi 2572)
Can I ask for Jannah al-Firdaus specifically?
Yes, and the Prophet encouraged it. He said: When you ask Allah, ask Him for al-Firdaus, for it is the highest part of Paradise, and above it is the Throne of the Most Merciful, and from it the rivers of Paradise flow. (Bukhari 2790)
Is there a specific time when dua for Jannah is more likely to be answered?
The last third of the night, between the two adhan at Fajr (between Fajr adhan and iqamah), during sujud, and after every obligatory prayer are among the best times for any dua โ including asking for Jannah.
Should I ask for Jannah even if I feel unworthy?
Yes. Feeling unworthy is not a reason to stop asking โ it is a reason to ask with humility. The dua itself is an act of worship. Asking Allah for Paradise acknowledges that only He can grant it, which is exactly the right orientation.
