In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

You have built something. It is working โ€” not perfectly, but it is working. And now you want more: more clients, more revenue, more capacity to provide for your family and do good with what you earn.

That ambition is not un-Islamic. The Quran says: "When the prayer is concluded, disperse through the land and seek from the bounty of Allah." (Surah Al-Jumu'ah 62:10). Seeking increase โ€” barakah, rizq, growth โ€” is encouraged for the Muslim who does it with the right means and the right intention.

The dua for increase in business is not a shortcut around hard work. It is the practice of keeping Allah in the picture as the One who ultimately controls whether effort produces fruit.

The Dua

For increase in provision and blessing in work:

ุงู„ู„ูŽู‘ู‡ูู…ูŽู‘ ุฅูู†ูู‘ูŠ ุฃูŽุณู’ุฃูŽู„ููƒูŽ ุฑูุฒู’ู‚ุงู‹ ุทูŽูŠูู‘ุจุงู‹ ูˆูŽุนูŽู…ูŽู„ุงู‹ ู…ูุชูŽู‚ูŽุจูŽู‘ู„ุงู‹

Allahumma inni as'aluka rizqan tayyiban wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan.

"O Allah, I ask You for good and wholesome provision, and deeds that are accepted." โ€” (Ibn Majah 925)

For blessing in existing provision, so that what you have grows:

ุงู„ู„ูŽู‘ู‡ูู…ูŽู‘ ุจูŽุงุฑููƒู’ ู„ูŽู†ูŽุง ูููŠู…ูŽุง ุฑูŽุฒูŽู‚ู’ุชูŽู†ูŽุง

Allahumma barik lana fi ma razaqtana.

"O Allah, bless us in what You have provided for us."

And the general dua for increase that the Prophet (peace be upon him) taught Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) when he sought blessing in his affairs:

ุงู„ู„ูŽู‘ู‡ูู…ูŽู‘ ุงุบู’ููุฑู’ ู„ููŠ ูˆูŽุงุฑู’ุญูŽู…ู’ู†ููŠ ูˆูŽุงู‡ู’ุฏูู†ููŠ ูˆูŽุงุฑู’ุฒูู‚ู’ู†ููŠ

Allahumma-ghfir li, warhamni, wahdini, warzuqni.

"O Allah, forgive me, have mercy on me, guide me, and provide for me." โ€” (Muslim 2697)

The Story Behind It

Among the companions, Abdur-Rahman ibn Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) was one of the most successful merchants in Islamic history. He arrived in Madinah after the Hijra with nothing โ€” having left all his wealth behind in Makkah. Within a short time, he had rebuilt his livelihood from scratch.

When asked about his success, the story the Companions recorded was not of a man with extraordinary natural talent alone โ€” it was of a man who maintained his five prayers, gave generously in sadaqah, and conducted his business with extreme honesty. His success was read by those around him as a sign of barakah in action.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) also said: "Seek provision in the hidden corners of the earth" โ€” meaning: be willing to work creatively and expansively โ€” and "morning is blessed for my ummah in their early work." (Abu Dawud 2606). Early starts and honest effort were the prophetic business model, with dua and tawakkul woven through them.

How to Build Dua Into Your Business Growth Strategy

Sustainable business growth, from an Islamic perspective, is not just about strategy and execution โ€” it is about building the conditions for barakah to operate. Here is what that looks like practically.

Begin every workday with morning adhkar. The morning adhkar are a package of supplications, Quranic verses, and dhikr that take ten to fifteen minutes and create a spiritual baseline for the day. The Prophet said that whoever recites the last two verses of Surah Al-Baqarah at night, they will be sufficient for him. Start your mornings with this practice โ€” see the dua for morning for the full routine.

Make specific growth duas after Fajr. After your morning adhkar, add one or two minutes of specific dua for your business. Name the specific goals: "O Allah, bless my work with clients who are easy to serve and who pay on time." "O Allah, open doors in [specific area] that I cannot open myself." The specificity is not about testing Allah โ€” it is about the quality of your conversation with Him.

Give sadaqah proportionally from income. This is not about giving what you can afford after all expenses โ€” it is about giving first, before you calculate what is left. Many Muslim business owners set a percentage of monthly revenue that goes to sadaqah before any other allocation. This practice is a statement of trust: "I believe there is more where this came from, because the One who gave it gives without exhaustion."

Audit your dealings for honesty regularly. Barakah and dishonesty cannot coexist. As your business grows, the temptations to cut corners, overcharge, underdeliver, or obscure terms will grow with it. A monthly honest review of your dealings โ€” Are my prices fair? Are my descriptions accurate? Am I paying people what I promised? โ€” is a spiritual practice as much as a business one.

Common Questions

My business is growing fast. Should I worry about pride?

Yes โ€” and that concern is itself a good sign. The nafs that watches for kibr (arrogance) is the nafs doing its job. The practical antidote is the same as the path to growth: keep giving sadaqah, keep making the duas, and keep attributing your success explicitly to Allah in your private thoughts and your public speech. Saying "alhamdulillah" and meaning it โ€” with genuine awareness that it could all be taken tomorrow โ€” is the check on pride.

Is it permissible to make dua for large wealth?

Yes, with two caveats: that the means of obtaining it are halal, and that your intention includes using it for good โ€” family, community, the ummah. The Prophet (peace be upon him) did not condemn wealth. He condemned wealth that makes a person forget Allah and neglect their obligations.

I have been making dua for business growth but nothing is changing. What should I do?

First, review the conditions of answered dua: sincerity, eating from halal sources, and not having an impatient or transactional attitude toward Allah. Second, review your practical business โ€” sometimes what looks like a spiritual problem is a strategic problem. Third, consider increasing sadaqah and istighfar. And fourth, trust that Allah's timing is not your timing. Delay is not denial.

Closing

Every sale you make, every client you serve well, every deal you complete honestly โ€” these are acts of ibadah when they are done in Allah's name and with His permission sought.

Keep asking for increase. Keep giving from what He has given. And keep building the kind of business that does not just grow in revenue but grows in barakah โ€” the kind of increase that blesses everyone it touches.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best dua for increase in business?

The dua 'Allahumma inni as'aluka rizqan tayyiban wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan' (O Allah, I ask You for good provision and accepted deeds, Ibn Majah 925) is widely recited. Also the morning adhkar, which include supplications for barakah in one's day and work. The dua 'Allahumma barik lana fi ma razaqtana' (O Allah, bless us in what You have provided for us) is used specifically for blessing in existing provision.

Does sadaqah really increase business income in Islam?

The Quran and Sunnah are explicit: giving in Allah's path brings increase. 'Allah will deprive usury of all blessing but will give increase for deeds of charity.' (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:276). The Prophet said: 'Sadaqah does not decrease wealth.' (Sahih Muslim 2588). This is not a promise of instant measurable return, but a divine principle of increase through generosity.

What is the Islamic view on ambition in business?

Seeking increase in provision is permissible and even praiseworthy when the means are halal and the intention includes supporting one's family, giving sadaqah, and contributing to the ummah. The Quran encourages seeking Allah's bounty (Surah Al-Jumu'ah 62:10). The danger is when ambition becomes an end in itself and disconnects a person from Allah.

Is it halal to ask Allah to make my business more profitable than my competitors?

Asking for your own increase is fine. Asking for harm to come to others is not. You can ask Allah for the best version of your business without invoking harm to anyone else. The goal of Islamic business supplication is abundance for you, not scarcity for others.

How does morning adhkar help business growth?

The morning adhkar include Ayat al-Kursi, the last two verses of Surah Al-Baqarah, and specific supplications for protection and blessing in the day ahead. Muslims who maintain this practice report that it creates clarity, calm, and intentionality that improves decision-making โ€” along with the spiritual benefit of beginning every day in connection with Allah.
