أَفَلَا يَتَدَبَّرُونَ الْقُرْآنَ

"Do they not reflect upon the Quran?" — (Surah An-Nisa, 4:82)

Once you understand the basic meaning, a short tafsir gives you context — why this verse was revealed, what scholars understood by it, and how to apply it. Tafsir Ibn Kathir is available in English. Even reading just the tafsir of Surah Al-Fatiha will expand your understanding enormously.

Can I read the Quran translation on my phone? Yes, completely. Apps like Quran.com and Tarteel have the Arabic alongside English translations. The key is intention and focus — phone or physical copy, the benefit is in how you engage, not the format.

Do I still get reward for reading an English translation? The reward for Arabic recitation is specific to the Arabic. But reading and reflecting on the translation is absolutely a form of worship and carries its own reward. The Prophet ﷺ said: "The best among you are those who learn the Quran and teach it" (Sahih Al-Bukhari 5027) — learning its meaning is part of learning it.

What if I only have ten minutes a day? Ten focused minutes is more valuable than an hour of distracted reading. Commit to understanding five ayat deeply rather than rushing through five pages. Consistency beats volume every time.

Where should I begin if I am a complete beginner? Start with Surah Al-Mulk, then work through Juz Amma (the last 30th of the Quran). These surahs are short, powerful, and deeply practical. By the time you have understood all of Juz Amma, you will have an entirely different relationship with your prayer.
